The Gallipoli Rose has a strong link with
Australia's military heritage. It grows
wild on the Gallipoli Peninsula and has
powerful legend associated with it. It is
believed Australian soldiers at Gallipoli
in Turkey during the First World War
were so taken with the plant's beauty
that they brought seeds back to Australia
and scattered them around fields and
gardens as a symbol of peace and
remembrance.
